For over 50 years, area children had enjoyed coming to Veterans Memorial Pool. Unfortunately, due to its aging condition, low attendance, and the expense to update and operate a seasonal pool, the City decided to close it. Since the closing of the pool, a citizens group was formed by the City of St. Johns Parks and Recreation Board with the purpose of bringing a water spray park to replace the pool.
The original pool was built by the Veterans of the area in the early 1950's to give families a safe place to play. It is the intent of the committee to follow the Veterans' intent by providing a more modern and family-friendly place for area residents to play.
Cost of the Spray Park is estimated to be between $350,000-$450,000.
If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact co-chairs of the Citizens Committee; Bill Schafer, City Recreation Director at 224-8944 ext. 227; or Suzie Fromson on Facebook at St. Johns, MI Spray Park.
